How to Configure Netscape Messenger Mail Settings (Net 4.5)

  • Open the Netscape Messenger or Navigator
  • In Messenger or Navigator, click on edit, then move down to the final option "preferences".  This will open a preferences window
  • On this Preferences window you will see a category list on the left side and the currently selected category on the right.
  • There are seven main categories.  They are Appearance, Navigator, Mail & Newsgroups, Roaming Access, Composer, Offline, and Advanced
  • Click the plus sign ( + ) next to Mail & Newsgroups.
  • Under the options for Mail & Newsgroups, we are primarily concerned with the first two..."Identity" and "Mail Servers". 
  • Highlight "Identity"
  • There are five spaces to be filled on the right side.  Some are not required to be filled.
  • The first is "Your Name", put your full name in here. (required)
  • Second is "Email Address", put your full email address in this space (ALL LOWER CASE!!!!)(required)
  • Third is "reply-to address" in most cases this is suppose to be left empty.  If  by some chance you want a different reply to address, it should be placed here.
  • Fourth is "Organization" If you are part of an organization, you can put it here.
  • Finally, the fifth is signature file...again this is usually empty.
  • The "Identity" is now done.  On the left side have the user click on "Mail Servers" directly below "Identity".  The "Mail Servers" screen should now be up on the right.
  • The first thing on the right side is "Incoming Mail Servers".  This should say ‘mail.prismweb.net'(ALL LOWER CASE!!!)  [The best way to make sure of all this is to click edit which is just right of the "Incoming Mail Servers" window.  When the edit window comes up...make sure the following is entered:
        Server name: mail.prismweb.net
        Server Type: POP3 Server
         Username: (your username)
  • Remember password (checked or unchecked) and how often to check mail is also here.  (This is up to you).
      Click "OK"
  • Below "Incoming Mail Servers" is "Outgoing Mail Servers".  Outgoing Mail [SMTP] server should be mailcity.prismweb.net.  Outgoing mail server username should be the user's username.  (BOTH SHOULD BE ALL LOWER CASE!!!)
  • Click "OK" and try checking and sending messages.  To test, send a test message to "support@prismweb.net".
