I get connected, but can't seem to access any web sites?

The most common cause for this problem is usually a DNS (Domain Name Server) problem.

First, Can you access this site? http://www.prismweb.net

How about this site? http://216.240.106.139

If you can access the second site, but not the first, here are the steps to remedy the situation.

  1. Double click on ‘My Computer'.
  2. Double click on ‘Dial up Networking'.
  3. With your right mouse button, click on your "Prismweb.net" Icon. Then, left click on "Properties".
  4. Click on the ‘Server Types' tab. Under advanced options make sure the only thing checked is ‘Enable Software Compression'.  Under ‘Allowed Network Protocols', make sure the only thing checked is ‘TCP/IP
  5. Click on the button labeled ‘TCP/IP Settings'.
  6. Out of the four bullets (circles) make sure there are dots in ‘Server assigned IP address' and ‘Specify Name Server Addresses'.  Then under primary DNS enter ‘216.240.106.139', then under secondary DNS enter ‘216.240.106.138'.
  7. Click OK, Click OK.  You should now be back to ‘Dial Up Networking'.
