Long Time Connecting

The most common cause is that you probably  have Client for Microsoft Networks installed noted by having the box checked called: "Log on to Network" in your dial-up profile.

Go to your Dial-up Networking profile, click on Properties, then Advanced and then un-check the box that says, "Log on to Network".

If your machine is not on a network, you might also want to remove the Client for Microsoft Networks altogether.

To get to your Dial-up Networking profile:

  • Start
  • Programs
  • Accessories
  • For Win 95 do Dialup Networking
  • For Win 98 do Communications then Dialup Networking
  • Highlight the active profile the click Properties
  • Click on Server Types
  • Uncheck the "log on to Network" box
